In Kansas, it can get so cold, you cannot face the wind,
You want to put the weather in an email and hit "send". But this poem is about something cold is not, This poem is about insane thoughts when it's hot. It's so hot this week, no one is out, People move quickly, like a fighter in a bout. They move quickly to their car, their home--they are not lazy, They move to get to wherever there is AC. The joggers are only found early in the AM or late at night, The sun has a hard time going down--it rises again tomorrow to fight. This contest of survival is a measurable commodity, How do plants and animals survive this weather oddity? I consider myself healthy and strong enough to cope, When it's this hot, the Catholics protect their Pope. When it's this hot, the protestants too, look for their fan, The Baptists, Presbyterians, Covenanters, and the Lutherans. Be careful, don't overdo it--seems necessary advice, What you think you can easily do--better think twice! Keep your fluids up--it's OK to sweat, On days like this, many Kansans their Maker have met. Get out your Gideon Bible and read Revelation 20:15, The "lake of fire" spoken of there must be an unreal scene. "No thanks" say I, as I cling to my Savior's hem, I am one of his sheep, not one of the goats, not them. Hot is a relative term--does conjour up images of fright, At least Kansas gets cooler each and every night. I hope some of this poem you will next winter remember, There's hardly any heat to be had for free during December! Dave Hale 6/26/12 A HOT Tuesday in Ottawa, Ks. hale-agency.com
