​Rehearsal

Did you ever go over something just to make sure it's right?
Do details of tomorrow's activity keep you awake at night?
I've done this many times--so have you,
How many times do fearful things happen?--Few.
 
Yet, it does make sense to go over it in your mind,
The second or third look might a gold nugget find,
The main reason there exists a need for rehearsal:
If not done, those seeking their seats might make a reversal.
 
Any choir director can look at the word and fear,
Smack dab in the middle of rehearsal is the word "hear".
Smack dab at the end of the word preparation,
Is ration..a little each week makes a director's elation.
 
Darrell is our Men's Chorus Director,
He is our advisor, our mentor, our Rector.
We singers seek his smile, his pleasure, his assent.
You have an uphill battle if you have a southern accent.
 
Maybe it's just me that have noticed, and I sing bass,
But Darrell has to spend more time with the tenors and get in their face.
They have to sing up so high, it's up in the rafters.
We basses just smile--it's more polite than smirks and laughters.
 
Then there are those men in the middle--they with middle notes hob-nob,
This poem is dedicated to the baritones in life, men like BOB.
 
Find a range you can sing in, rehearse, give it your best,
At life's end there will be plenty of time to rest.
