EM Another View

Last week, Ottawa Kansas saw first hand a modern day phenomenon,
A rare occurrence, Extreme Makeover made magic under the hot sun.
Hundreds came from everywhere to build a house strong,
They labored in blue shirts with white hard hats all day long.

Other folks checked in to work at it all night, too,
A bare field on Sunday, by Wednesday, the roof was on, a dark blue.
Lumber, drywall, gravel, plywood--the list made your head spin,
The site bosses wore maroon shirts, they made sure it all got in.

Hundreds came to watch during this hot week--Tuesday, it was 110,
The wind and the dust reminded us all it was Kansas we were in.

Slowly the pearl took shape in this oyster made by man,
It really is amazing what a group can do in a short span.
By Saturday the lights were on and they were watering the lawn,
All we saw was the outside--you know that inside, a lot went on.

EM has another meaning for me--our middle daughter is named Emily,
We call her EM for short, which she's not, she's 6' tall don't you see.
But unlike the show, our EM is just right, no need for changes at a
Our EM is pretty, energetic, mother of 4, is as passionate about life as she is tall.

In this great big world, you can keep your EM, we'll keep ours,
The show's producer and creative minds couldn't improve our EM using all their powers.
I can see the contractors and specialists sit in a circle and scratch their heads,
And be unable to improve our EM --what she is, is better than their opinions and insteads.

Whether it's a project like EM or a daughter/wife/mom like EM, it starts as a dream,
A strong shelter or person is very valuable, though sometimes extremes can make us scream.
Search your creative side, build something big; be it tangible or intangible,
Work with others--it's impossible for EM Home edition to be personally managable.
