Surprise from Ed

Have you ever thought about all the things you do not know?
Like how to stop a train or make a stalled car go?
Of course, there's science and biology and the eyes of a flea,
There are many things of which one could say, "Why is that important to me?"
 
Most of the things you do not know, you could accurately thumb your nose,
Like the cost of tap dance shoes and matching "over the calf" hose.
But it occurred to me while attending a local supper tonight,
Paying attention to some information would absolutely be right.
 
Anyone who's been around me knows I'm interested in life's oddities,
Relationships and why people get along are, to me, interesting commodities.
Inconsistencies and exceptions seem to capture my attention,
The evening news and politicians aren't worth my retention.
 
But at this supper, I began to listen to my friend Ed,
We got to talking before and after, my face I had fed.
He said he knows I send these poems out to many on my list,
He likes the poems and hopes he's never overlooked or inadvertently missed.
 
Ed said when he get these poems from me--the ones I send to him for free,
He forwards them to HIS friends, after he's collected a fee.
Ed smiled as he shared this--I think he was joking,
Or, maybe he does get paid, wondered if I knew--that's why he was poking.
 
Now you're aware of something else I'm really not sure of,
It reminds me of being 14 and in the middle of puppy love.
I've heard that wisdom is doing today what you'll probably be glad of tomorrow,
While Ed makes a buck, I'll write some more poems embracing joy and not sorrow.
